What you can do to help ...

Needs that can be met immediately with adequate funding:

Food: - $100/month. For one of the smaller, needier homes $100/month would increase its food budget by 20%. Such funds would be funneled through local pastors/churches to purchase needed staples such as flour, rice, beans, sugar, etc. as those needs are indicated.

Food: - $150/month. For this amount, food such as vegetables, fresh fruit and vegetables, milk and meat could be purchased occasionally. Locally grown produce is very reasonably priced and we will be trying to arrange for discounted prices for the purchase of large quantities for these homes. Of course, donated food would be much better so we will pray for the hearts of the people in the communities to be opened to the needs around them.

Pampers: - $100/month will purchase enough pampers for 150 kids each month. There is aChild in Children's TB Hospital - Sofia tremendous need here as some of the homes have infants, toddlers, retarded children who are not potty-trained, children with physical problems that include incontinence, or those with emotional problems that cause bed-wetting. Without adequate laundry facilities there is no way for the homes to keep the children or their beds clean and dry. Not only do they NOT have pampers they don't have any sort of plastic pants or sheets.

Clothing: - $75/month For this amount of money, 10 children could be outfitted with shoes each month. We have a goal of supplying the residential school in Breznitsa with shoes for every child (70+ school age children) before the end of August. This would require approximately $500. These kids must walk a fair distance to their school even though there is a public school adjacent to the home. The Heights Baptist Church is filling a container of donated new children's clothing soon and hope to fill the rest with donated clothing and disposables. Things like sweat pants with elastic waist bands and sweat shirts are greatly valued. Zippers are problematic with the younger kids just because of the time that it takes to put them on and the repair problems that they easily can have.

School Books: - $60/set By the end of the summer we want to have the funds in hand to provide a 3 complete sets of text books for each grade level for the children of two of the homes for kids with normal learning ability. Bulgarian schools have 11 grades. This would mean that for a total of $4,000 we could supply both of these schools with the appropriate texts.

School Supplies: - $25/month Imagine being in school, having classes and not having anything to write on or with - or even any paper to paint on or any paint to paint with. Imagine the creativity that is just waiting to be unleashed with some good school supplies. Here's where a small amount of money will go a very long way.
