This project will be of great service to the home in several ways (click any item to highlight, click here to reset):
1) Wheelchair ramps for handicapped access. Many of the children in the home are non-ambulatory. Existing ramps are poorly made, in disrepair, and furthermore only allow access to the first floor. This new facility will provide better ramps for first floor access and provide the only ramps for second-floor access to all three (original two and new) buildings. 2) A sheltered area for parking and loading/unloading. In addition to providing shelter for a vehicle and a place to unload supplies in adverse weather, a loading area would also allow children being taken out of the home, especially children going to the hospital, to be put in the cars without exposing them to the elements. 3) Handicapped accessible toilets. The home's current facilities are tight and cramped and unsuitable for its many disabled residents. 4) Indoor access between buildings. The staff and children will be able to move between buildings without going outside--also useful for carrying food between the kitchens (4a) in the right-hand building and the majority of the children in the left-hand building. 5) A sunny living/sitting area. This will allow the children a bright place to sit and see outdoors even during inclement weather. 6) Extra space. Existing offices, physical therapy rooms, and sleeping quarters are cramped. The addition of several new, larger rooms will help this problem. |
