New Building Takes Shape - on
budget!
At Borovtsi the new building is taking shape
nicely. When I was there in June the second floor was in
process and the supporting columns for the roof were beginning to be
placed. Bad weather and some changes we made at the request of
the local police department will slightly delay the completion of
this project but it's proceeding quite nicely.
The first floor is beginning to have partitions built for
rooms.
Standing on the second floor one can see
where the new and the old buildings will intersect.
Because the cafeterias will be on two floors there is a "dumb
waiter" to move food from the kitchen on the first floor to
the second floor.
Raw timbers hold the panels in place for
pouring concrete beams.
Workers take out timbers that had been placed to support the
concrete beam.
Ivan Petkov (Director of the home), Judy
Ridgway and the construction foreman discuss adding additional
space for an "isolation unit" as required by the law.
Shown with Judy Ridgway on our visit in June, here's one of
the beneficiaries of this facility who will be able to eat in
a clean, dry, non-dangerous building when the new one is
complete this fall.
This rough sketch shows the elevation of the
front of the building. The kitchen is to the right (one
story only) and the middle part of the sketch is the cafeteria
and bathroom facilities. These areas will be split on
the two floors to provide age separation in the dining areas
as this home houses kids from very young through high school
age.
